My Bio

Ras Jomo was born and raised in Buffalo, NY.  A proud father of 5 and 2 grandchildren, he is known in the community as an Ambassador of Roots and Culture because of decades of service poured into educating, inspiring, and encouraging Black people to be their best selves.

Ras (as he is affectionately knick-named) is a musician, educator, Ambassador of Culture, radio personality and creator of Project Access to A Free Ka, a three hour weekly international broadcast on www.power965fmradio.com the Legendary WUFO 1080AM 96.5FM, every Sunday from 7-10PM ET.

Since becoming a volunteer for the Juneteenth Festival in Buffalo in the late 1990’s, Ras Jomo continues to prioritize the Festival as a vital link in the Black Buffalo community, desiring to develop Buffalo’s Juneteenth into a national and international destination. Currently, Executive Vice President of Juneteenth Festival, Ras Jomo has played a major role in expanding Buffalo's Juneteenth beyond the Festival.

He has lead initiatives that have become staples in the annual celebration such as Sankofa Days (community events leading up to the festival in June), CommUniversity & Marcus Garvey Back to School Readiness Project (every August).

Ras Jomo is an active member of Buffalo’s KWANZAA Committee and helps to organize seven days of events and activities for the Black community. Project Access to AFreeKa is a featured staple on the first night of the celebration (Umoja).

Since the late 90’s Ras Jomo has travelled to many places around the world and had the privilege to teach traditional African drumming to countless youth and adults. Skilled both in African traditional drums and the drum kit, Ras Jomo has performed locally and around the world.

Ras Jomo began his journey to become a union carpenter in 2005. By 2016 he became a Council Representative and is currently positioned as a Trustee on the Executive Board for Carpenters Local 276, Trustee North Atlantic States Carpenters Labor Management Program and Executive Committee for North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters.
